Take a Walk with BiCi Co. – Friday, June 9th
We don’t just ride bikes at BiCi Co. Sometimes we hit the streets on foot, a perfect medium for taking notes and making new friends. This Friday, June 9th friends of BiCi Co. and attendees at the Bike Walk Connecticut Annual Summit tactical urbanism training will head out for a 1.9 mile “walk audit.” We are stepping off at 3:15pm sharp from 227 Lawrence Street (the Lyceum near Billings Forge). Walkers will have the Hartford 311 App loaded on their phones to quickly snap and report sidewalk, crosswalk, and street safety issues. The walk will be jam packed with Hartford love and features:
- Bustling Hispanic / International district on Park Street
- Historic Pope Park – Colonel Albert Pope and the Columbia Bicycle Company
- CTfastrak station on Hawthorn
- Intersection of Russ and Sigourney, that is being converted to a snazzy roundabout with a separated bikeway (design pretty far along)
- Complete Streets bike lanes and bump outs on Capitol Avenue
- A couple of tragically wide and fast traffic sewers
- The I-84 Viaduct, which is being proposed to come down to ground level (or sunken) as part of the I-84 Hartford Project
- Flower Street – Sadly closed due to the CTfastrak. For some reason pedestrians were deemed unable to safely cross the busway at this junction – but not others in the city.
- Broad Street green lanes and bike boxes.
The brief stroll will end at our neighborhood Red Rock Tavern (Capitol and Lawrence) for a happy hour with food and drinks. If you missed the walk, but want to join us for the happy hour after you leave the office, we’ll amble in around 4:30-5:00pm. We’ll see you out there. You can invite friends with this Facebook Event.
