What is BiCi Co.?

The Center for Latino Progress, through its BiCi Co. program increases community mobility. The program advances environmental sustainability and health equity by promoting safe, affordable, and reliable transportation options that reduce environmental impact while improving access to healthcare, education, healthy lifestyles, and economic opportunities for underserved communities. Through bicycle repair training, workforce development, and community engagement, BiCi Co. also creates pathways to green jobs and skill-building opportunities for youth and adults.

“BiCi” is the Spanish nickname for bicicleta (bicycle), and “Co.” represents comunidad (community). Center for Latino Progress’s BiCi Co. operates in two locations: on the south edge of downtown Hartford and in West Hartford next to the train station.

Since its launch in 2015, BiCi Co. has served over 1,000 participants through programming focused on bike safety, mechanics, bicycle science, and bicycle history. Over the same period, BiCi Co. has expanded into year-round programs and services for youth and adults, including a fully functioning community bike shop, DIY repair services, and workforce development opportunities.

In partnership with the Department of Transportation, the City of Hartford, the Hartford Police Department, the Avangrid Foundation, Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra, and the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation, Center for Latino Progress’s BiCi Co. hosts the annual Bike Life event, which promotes healthy lifestyles, community rides, chronic disease prevention, and opportunities for community engagement and service connections. BiCi Co. has also donated more than 700 bicycles to community members, increasing access to affordable transportation and strengthening community mobility.

Donate and Support BiCi Co.

All donations support our programs and operations at Bici Co. You can donate in two ways, either donating funds or donating equipment. We repurpose used bikes and put them back into our community through diverse programs and used bike sales. Click below to get started!
