Earn-a-Bike is a hands-on, bicycle-based, eight-week training program which introduces Hartford youth to the world of bicycles. Young people aged 13-19 earn their bicycle by learning about maintenance, Hartford’s bike history, bicycle science, and safety skills. Participants leave the program with a bicycle that they have tuned up and customized themselves.
Our Spring program starts in February and our Fall program in October. The class runs for 8 weeks with meetings twice a week, days based on participant survey. Applicants that complete the course earn a bicycle they fix themselves, bike lights, a helmet, and a bicycle lock. Applications close once the class reaches capacity.
Contact the Shop Manager to learn when the next course begins and to get your teenager on the waiting list.
All youth that complete Earn-a-Bike with satisfactory attendance and pass our code-of-conduct/skills will be eligible to be a BiCi Co Sponsored Rider/Mechanic eligible for special discounts on parts, bikes, service, event travel, and employment opportunities.
